30 Days of arts, culture, and cuisine, set in a whimsical — yet twisted — Candyland.

Hosted by Think Tank Gallery

Think Tank becomes LA’s top cultural destination with 30 days of arts, culture and cuisine in a whimsical — and twisted— candyland, created by Banksy collaborator Scott Hove and artist Baker’s Son.

Whether it’s an intimate VIP speakeasy with a private Cirque du Soleil performance or an underground comedy show, Break Bread will bring novel programming to a unique space for once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

The basics: it’s 9,000 square feet of floor-to-ceiling cake sculptures, a lifesize ice cream truck with all of its products created completely in hyperrealistic watercolor, a Zumanity themed bar and lounge, dining experiences by Feastly, a popup coffee shop by Stumptown, and nightly special events.

EVENTS

Break Bread will host a variety of events and unite LA’s unique cultural scene under one roof. That means supperclubs, comedy shows, immersive theater performances, speakeasies, boozy brunches, live music, and more. Click on each event below to learn more or reserve tickets.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: SCOTT HOVE

Scott Hove is a San Francisco-born, self-taught artist living in Los Angeles. His ongoing series ‘Cakeland’ addresses society’s notions of comfort, pleasure, celebration and their dark counterparts in the form of carefully crafted artificial cakes. Intended to at once attract and repel, each cake and installation engages the viewer’s emotions with a sense of imminent beauty and satisfaction, quickly followed with impending threat. Materials are chosen according to their own inherent beauty and/or violence. Beautiful fake fruit, switchblades, Swarovski crystals, stiletto heels, and taxidermy jaws are presented with fluffy, delicious looking fake frosting, piped through a pastry bag using traditional cake decorating techniques. ABOUT THE ARTIST: BAKER’S SON

Keith Magruder—also known as the Baker’s Son—graduated from the California College of the Arts in 2008 with a focus on Illustration. At an early age, Keith developed a strong connection to food by helping his mother and grandmother bake cakes, pies, and bread in the kitchen. He was able to experience the joys and happiness their baked goods brought to people. Through that experience, Keith realized baking can represent much more than what appears on the surface. In exploring the origins, costs, and transformational properties of ingredients, Keith’s artwork offers an artistic commentary on the socio-political aspects of food and the relationship that people and cultures around the world share with it.
